"We're Back!" V. 3, Ep. 7

So, it took a while. It took some planning and some soul searching. It took some realization that doing this podcast was something that we enjoyed doing, as long as we were doing it the way we wanted to do it. So, we're back. Perhaps a bit leaner and meaner, but back nonetheless.

This podcast covers the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival that took place back in December, specifically the LYNDA BARRY AND CHARLES BURNS IN CONVERSATION program.

Kurt and I are planning on doing at least 3 podcasts a month, more if time allows, and we're pretty psyched with some of the things we have planned.

Enjoy the recording, and as always comments are welcome via email here: Write.Club1@gmail.com, Twitter here @Write_Club, or in the comments section on this post.

Write Club! "Digital Dilemma" V. 3, Ep. 2

Tim and Rick Lacy settle down to have a nice chat about Digital Comics, prompted by DC Comics boldly throwing their cowl into the new-media millennia. Tim & Rick are soon joined by the original digital barbarian himself, Phil Gelatt, and then things get interesting.

Digital comics, Independent film, Marvel Short movies, D&D with pornstars, and playing games in the world of H.P. Lovecraft. Nothing's off the table for Write Club!

Indie Club. Where Independent Creativity Gets Together.

Hello 'clubbers.

Welcome to Indie Club, the new face of Write Club. Just below the spiffy new logo I designed up above we have new links where you can find all of our podcast episodes, comic reviews, a list of articles and a link to email us just to let us know how much you love us (or to help us tweak the design of the site).

Over there on the right hand side, we have a sidebar that will let you link directly to Write Club on iTunes, to get to our forum at TenTonStudios, our 'Best Of' from our first 2 volumes, the Write Club Funnies archive, Game Club reviews/articles, and our weekend postings Sub*Text Saturdays & This Week in Cool.

Below that you'll find out retweet button and Twitter feed. Hit us up and let us know what you think, or if you'd like to contribute or have something for us to help promote. Write Club is here for you.

Also I'd just like to mention we've got two indie comix friendly events coming up:

Reinhard Kleist's Johnny Cash: I See A Darkness signing at Jim Hanley's Universe on April 14th at 6PM.

Dash Shaw's release party for BodyWorld will be held at Desert Island on Thursday, April 15th, from 7-9PM.

We'll be running full steam ahead after the success of last month's GIRLS CLUB, and having run the gamut of alternative comics that was MoCCA this weekend. Lots of things planned, but there's always room for more if you'd like to write, draw, film, shoot, dance, etc. etc. for us, or you'd like for us to do that for you.

Until tomorrow I leave you with the Daily News' coverage of the top books from MOCCA.

Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival

On Saturday December 5th the first Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival was held at Our Lady of Consolation Church (184 Metropolitan Ave. Brooklyn). It was a terrible day--windy and cold and rainy and gross, but as soon as I reached the fest, it was clear that the weather didn't stop anyone from coming out. I got there early because I had to be somewhere else that afternoon, and by 11:15, it was already busy and bustling.

Of course, the sponsors of the event (Desert Island and Picturebox) had great spreads of artwork, books, etc. I did a few laps to check everything out and dropped off a few of my own books at the Secret Project Robot table (because they are awesome and took some because I wasn't able to get table space). I was drawn to Leslie Stein's table because of her cute felt owl pins, (and perhaps because I subconsciously recognized her from Mother's?) but came away with issue 1 of "Eye of the Majestic Creature," which is pretty awesome and definitely worth checking out.

L. Nichols of Jumbly Junkery also had a great spread of screen prints and books. Jungyeon Roh was another highlight in my opinion, I had never seen her stuff before and it is really beautiful. Her work is colorful and poignant and whimsical and serious all at the same time. Really, everything there seemed to be worth a pause if not a full out stop and chat. For a first time fest, this one was pretty great and it reminded me of all the things I really liked about King Con minus all the stuff I really didn't like about Big Apple Comic Con.

I wish I could have gone to some of the talks, but I had another commitment. The weather was a definite downer because I probably would have gone back to Secret Project Robot later on (which is an awesome place in general) for the panels, etc. if it had been nicer. So basically I'm super lazy and don't own a raincoat. But really, this fest was inspired and inspirational and it not only brought a lot of super-talented, passionate people together, it brought them together in a cohesive, easy and fun way. Thumbs up, right on, way to go!

Welcome King Con Peeps!

Hello all of you who came and stopped by Write Club!'s table at the fabulous King Con, held this weekend at the Brooklyn Lyceum in Park Slope, and are now checking out our corner of the web. It was a blast and we got some on-site podcasting done with a few creators we know and love and made some new friends along the way.

Firstly, big ups to dashing Rick Lacy & 'mazing Matt Loux who we shared a table with. Rick & Matt both have separate books out from Oni Press and they are awesome.

Rick draws the 'Big Lebowski meets James Bond' comedy/action book Labor Days, of which book 2 has just been released. Labor Days: Book 1 Preview & Labor Days Book 2 Preview.

And if you'd like a commentary to Labor Days Book 1, you can listen here as me & Tim chat with Rick and writer Phil Gelatt about all the behind-the-scenes info that went into Labor Days, and just what that title means.

Matt Loux writes and draws Salt Water Taffy a spiffy, children's adventure book that we had the pleasure of discussing with him on-air, as it were. Stay tuned for the King Con Write Club! podcast where Matt gives us his dream cast for Salt Water Taffy: the Movie! 8 Page preview of book 3 up at Oni Press.

He also mentioned a cool anthology of comics featuring video game characters called LIFEMETER in which he has a Maniac Mansion story. I need to get me a copy of this.

So if you saw two radtastic artists sitting besides us, that was them, or if you saw two weirdos sitting next to them and one of us shoved a business card into your hand, WELCOME TO WRITE CLUB!

We're a comics/writing podcast, but we really cover a wide range of topics, and we're all about promoting, not just ourselves but YOU! Yes, you! With your mini-comics, or comic themed band, or webcomic, anthology, etc., we want to help you build an audience (and maybe take a few readers/listeners for ourselves).

So please, send us an email with a link or information about your project and we'll talk about it here or on our podcast. You can reach us at Write.Club1@gmail.com, or via Twitter TimX13 (Tim) & AgentFenris (Kurt) or Write_Club. We're looking for consistent webcomic content, and as we're both writers trying to draw, well, it's a slow process, so if you have a webcomic and like to have a home for it, we'd be glad to post it up in our webcomics section.

You can listen to the podcast here on our blog, which will feature, articles, reviews, and webcomics, or you can get Write Club! from iTunes. You can also chat with us on our Write Club! official thread up on the TenTonStudios forum, or you can hit us up on our Write Club! Facebook Page.

For those of you who may be interested in my upcoming graphic novel with the talented Chris Chua (as seen in Marvel's Strange Tales #3 out last Wednesday!), you can see the preview of it up at our studio's site TenTonStudios.com. As pages are lettered I will be posting them up at the link below.

LIQUID FURY PREVIEW!

You can also get your Chris Chua fix at his Controlled Chaos Caricature Blog and read his original webcomic-graphic novel HYPER DEMENTED TURDLE SHOWDOWN.

As for Tim Mucci, you may have seen his TOM SAWYER from Sterling, but also available soon is THE ODYSSEY and you can pick up STAR WARS CLONE ADVENTURES Vol. 3 in which he has a short story.

So, that's us. Now, you tell us who you are and what it is you do. We'd like to help you in any way we can.

We Are Write Club! (and so are you)
